We are due to begin our outdoor training on Monday 17 April, 6.30-8.30pm at Brecon Promenade. Our first ‘block’ of training will be for either 5 or 6 weeks (interrupted by several bank holidays!):

  • Mon 17 April
  • Mon 24 April
  • NO SESSION on Mon 1 May (Steve is away over the Bank Holiday weekend)
  • POSSIBLY Mon 8 May (coronation Bank Holiday) – we’ll run this session if enough of you are available
  • Mon 15 May
  • Mon 22 May
  • NO SESSION on Mon 29 May (we have an expedition over the Bank Holiday weekend)
  • Mon 5 Jun

We are hoping to offer the following programme options, depending on numbers and availability of coaches and leaders:

  • Paddle Discover Award training and assessment – suitable for anyone new to paddlesport; you will be expected to attend all weeks of this course (this is equivalent to the ‘old’ 1-star award)
  • Paddle Safer Award training – this will take place one evening as an integral part of the Discover Award course, but will also (subject to space) be open to anyone who has not done this or other formal paddlesport safety training
  • Paddle Explore Award training and assessment – you will be expected to attend all weeks of this course (this is equivalent to the ‘old’ 2-star award):
    • using kayaks, for those who have not done this yet; or
    • using open canoes and paddle-boards, for those who have already gained the award in kayak
  • Paddle Fitness for those of you aren’t interested in gaining awards but would like to improve your fitness: this will be particularly suitable for our polo players (though it might be in river boats – but could potentially include some ball skills!)
  • Casual Paddling for those of you who’d just like a gentle outing on the river

The cost for the courses will be £6 per week, block-booked in advance for all 5/6 weeks (no refunds for missed weeks). For fitness and casual paddling sessions there will be a nominal fee of £3 per week if you bring your own boats, or £8 per week (£6 if all weeks block-booked in advance) to use club boats (subject to availability).

Full details will follow in due course, but in the meantime please e-mail Steve ASAP to let him know which option you’re interested in attending (and whether you could attend on 8 May). Thanks!
