‘Easier’ White Water Trips, starting 22 October

Our ‘easier’ white water trips this winter are and aimed at anyone who feels ready to try white water (as well as experienced white-water paddlers who just want to get out paddling!) and are currently scheduled for the 4th Sunday of each month (22 Oct, 26 Nov, 24 Dec TBC, 28 Jan*, 25 Feb*, 24 Mar* – *dates TBC subject to confirmation of polo tournaments).

The aim is for these trips to get progressively harder throughout the winter, starting on ‘gentle’ grade 1-2 rivers (possibly with the odd grade 3 section that can be walked-around) and moving up to more demanding grade 2 rivers with sections of grade 3 (which can all be walked-around) – with appropriate coaching to help everyone develop their skills and confidence. Most of the trips will be in South Wales, although at least one of the later ones is likely to be further afield.

We are also hoping to incorporate the new Introduction to White Water Safety Award as well as training and assessment for the White Water Award, for those that are interested. The Introduction to White Water Safety Award will be delivered in modules over 2-3 consecutive trips, so candidates for this would need to come on all the relevant trips.

These trips will be suitable for anyone aged 14+ who can paddle 5km under control, who is confident capsizing, and who has the stamina and clothing for cold water paddling! Boat hire etc. will, as usual, be available for £10 per trip.

Numbers will be limited – and formal booking will follow in due course, but in the meantime if you’re interested in attending any of these trips – and especially if you’re interested in the Introduction to White Water Safety Award – please do let Steve know (we already have expressions of interest from Anne – from Nov, Huw, Lee and Sam C, also possibly Pete J and Phil M).
