All at Sea…

Sadly, Pete and Steve wee the only two Club members able to make our trip on Sun 25 Sep to the Pembrokeshire coastline – but we had a great time nonetheless! The sea was calm and the sun was out, perfect for the Club’s first venture onto the sea for many years – and being just the two of us, we were able to take sea kayaks rather than river boats, which made for a less tiring trip. We launched through gentle surf at Newgale then paddled with the ebbing tide to Solva, exploring numerous caves, coves and beaches on route and practising close-quarter manoeuvres with our 17ft-long craft. After a low-tide lunch at Solva we caught the flood back to Newgale, this time heading 1km out to sea to pass around the islands of Black Scar, Green Scar and The Mane and using the wind and current to help speed us back. And with a little energy left we even had time for an hour’s play in the surf in our river boats – not the best surf but it was great fun and left us exhausted for the drive home (and stiff the next day!). Hopefully a few more of you will be able to join us for one or two sea trips in 2023…

Apologies for the blurred pix – Steve didn’t dare risk taking his phone out of its salt-covered plastic cover in case he dropped it in the oggin!
