The magnificent Upper Wye!

Six intrepid paddlers make the trip last Sunday on the Upper Wye to Rhayader from Dernol (about halfway between Llangurig and Rhayader) – one of our favourite local rivers this 5 mile stretch combines beautiful scenery with some fabulous grade 2-3 gorges requiring some intricate manoeuvring and some challenging grade 3-4 rapids – including the infamous ‘Letterbox Rapid’. Only 4 swims – and 2 of those were caused by a single tree on what should have been a straightforward section! Well done Peter M, Rhiannon, Sam and Tanya for some great paddling – and Dave & Steve for leadership and rescue duty as usual!! Some photos (thanks Ceri) and videos attached to whet your appetites for next year ;-).

2022 swims to date: Fraser: 1; Jim: 1; Nairi: 4; Phil H: 3; Rhiannon: 2; Sam: 10; Siobhan: 1; Tanya: 3
