Club Equipment
The Club has a range of kayaks and associated equipment (paddles, buoyancy aids/PFDs, helmets, spray-decks, cagoules, etc.) which are available for use by members at club events, sometimes included within the cost of the event (e.g. evening training sessions) or for hire on trips (usually £10 per day for kayak plus equipment).
Polo Equipment
Our polo players often keep hold of their kit between sessions, to save the club having to dry it all each time (and to allow personal training etc. between sessions when appropriate). This kit is issued to members ‘on loan’ and may be recalled or passed on to other people at any time; please don’t treat it as ‘personal’ and don’t modify in any way with stickers or marker pens! The PFDs are numbered and sized of course, although there are duplicate numbers sometimes in the same and sometimes different sizes; helmets also have an individual number written on the label inside them; boats do have unique serial numbers (on the inside labels) and we will number them individually on the hull in due course…
Here are some manufacturer’s washing and drying advice; rinsing might be easiest done in the pool showers before returning home!
- Helmets (advice from Palm): rinse helmets in clean, fresh water after each use to help reduce odour, corrosion or degradation of materials. Drip dry helmets out of sunlight and away from heat sources. Frequent forced drying in drying rooms will shorten the lifespan of the foam inserts and parts. Store helmets upright on a shelf out of sunlight. Do not hang helmets from the chin strap. Do not store helmets wet or damp.
- PFDs (advice from PeakUK): Handwash in freshwater after use. Hang to drip dry in the shade, away from heat and fumes. Rinsing in disinfectant may reduce the lifespan of your PFD. For a quick refresh try using Odour Eliminator or similar. Store dry, away from direct sunlight and heat.
- Spray-decks (advice from PeakUK): Rinse your deck in fresh water after use, and leave to drip dry. Store away from contaminants, UV light and direct heat.
