River Wye Expedition 27-29 May

A small-but-perfectly-formed group of 2 solo canoeists (Pete and Steve) and 2 sea kayakers (Jack & Stuart) set out from Hereford in glorious sunshine on Saturday, paddling 28km in just 5 hours to reach Tresseck Campsite at Hoarwithy in time for a leisurely board game followed by dinner in the nearby pub. On Sunday, Steve was joined by Jess and Willow (her golden retriever) to form a tandem pair (plus passenger) for the shorter 18km to Ross-on-Wye where we arrived at the rowing club in time to setup camp before lunch, another board game then pizza by the riverside. Stuart had to depart for some work preparations on Monday (bank holiday) morning; and Jess and Willow opted for a day off; so Jack, Pete and Steve paddled the final 32km to Monmouth in 6 hours as a trio, stopping for a play in Symonds Yat rapid (with an impromptu swim by Jack, attempting his first white water moves – in a sea kayak!!). Thanks to all the paddlers (and support crew Chris!) for a very enjoyable weekend and a great introductory trip for newcomers Jack and Stuart.
