SUMMARY:8 Sep 2024 'Easier' White Water Skills & Safety at Symonds Yat (Part 2)
DESCRIPTION:CANCELLED DUE TO LOW NUMBERS \n\n\n\nPlease book places (in the usual way\, via the RSVP or ‘tickets’ buttons on the website event listing – or e-mail Steve) by midnight Thu 5th!! \n\n\n\nNB ‘Part 1’ was on 11 Aug\, but each day is stand-alone so you don’t have to have attended that one! \n\n\n\nThis is an opportunity for some of our ‘newer’ paddlers to learn some of the fundamental skills needed to paddle safely and in-control on white water\, using the ‘easy’ grade 2 rapids at Symonds Yat – and for our more experienced paddlers who’d like to join in the fun (maybe try a canoe for a change?!). \n\n\n\nWe’ll meet in the morning (after any lift-shares) at Wyedean Canoe Centre\, Symonds Yat East (not West – which is the other side of the river)\, pay for parking and launching\, then organise ourselves before paddling downriver to the rapids. Although it’s possible to return to the village for lunch\, this would be unnecessarily time-consuming\, so we’ll take packed lunches (and maybe visit the pub or ice cream stall after paddling!)\, aiming to be off the water mid-afternoon. \n\n\n\nParticipants should be prepared to get wet (you may fall in; and we may well practise deliberate swimming!) and dress accordingly – do feel free to contact us if you’re not sure what to wear or bring. \n\n\n\nFinal details will be sent later in the week to those who’ve booked places.

DESCRIPTION:Our next block of Canoe Polo training sessions will start on Mon 9 Sep and will run on alternate weeks: 9\, 23 Sep\, 7\, 21 Oct. \n\n\n\nNB the first session on 9 Sep will be for our existing paddlers only; subsequent sessions will also be open to new paddlers from our ‘learn to kayak’ course. \n\n\n\nSessions will run from 7.15 to 9pm\, including a 15min ‘buffer’ at the start and finish to get equipment in and out of the pool (i.e. an hour-and-a-quarter actually in the pool). \n\n\n\nWe’re currently expecting the following players but may still have space for more\, so please let us know ASAP if you’re interested (i.e. if you’re not on the list below\, please don’t ‘get tickets’ without checking with us first) – NB those in bold have already paid: \n\n\n\n\nChris\, Fleur\, Gethyn\, Huw\, Mel\, Natalie\, Sam C\, Steve R\n\n\n\n\nThe cost of each session will be £15 but we are able to offer a discounted rate of £50 if you ‘block-book’ all 4 sessions in advance (no refunds for missed sessions) – and all existing paddlers will need to be paid-up members of the Club and of Canoe Wales (and signed-up to our Club Code of Conduct). NB this discounted rate will make it difficult for us to cover our costs\, so we will also continue to invite optional donations\, for those that feel able to contribute a little extra… \n\n\n\nArrival & Changing\n\n\n\n\nPlease arrive in time to be changed and ready to enter poolside for 7.15pm.\n\n\n\nPlease wear T-shirts as well as swimwear (for warmth as well as modesty!).\n\n\n\nMake your way straight to the changing rooms – there is no need to check-in at reception.\n\n\n\nPlease wait at the changing room exits before going poolside – we’ll need to be given the ‘all-clear’ that the previous group has left before we enter.\n\n\n\nFeel free to bring your own boats & paddles – as long as they’re clean. Deposit them by the external doors in the car park before the start of the session.\n\n\n\n\nOn Poolside\n\n\n\n\nParents are welcome on poolside to help children carry boats and get kitted-up\, also to help them empty boats if required during the session (we’ll show you how!). You might even be able to help in the water\, if this is something you’d be willing to do – in which case\, come prepared with swimwear!\n\n\n\nNo outdoor shoes on poolside please.
