Deposit them by the external doors in the car park before the start of the session.\n\n\n\n\nOn Poolside\n\n\n\n\nParents are welcome on poolside to help children carry boats and get kitted-up\, also to help them empty boats if required during the session (we’ll show you how!). You might even be able to help in the water\, if this is something you’d be willing to do – in which case\, come prepared with swimwear!\n\n\n\nNo outdoor shoes on poolside please.

Although it’s possible to return to the village for lunch\, this would be unnecessarily time-consuming\, so we’ll take packed lunches (and maybe visit the pub or ice cream stall after paddling!)\, aiming to be off the water mid-afternoon. \n\n\n\nParticipants should be prepared to get wet (you may fall in; and we may well practise deliberate swimming!) and dress accordingly – do feel free to contact us if you’re not sure what to wear or bring. \n\n\n\nFinal details will be sent later in the week to those who’ve booked places.

DESCRIPTION:Alongside the first week of our 3-week ‘Learn to Paddle’ July course (which also includes the ‘easier’ trip on Sun 28 July)\, this week offers the opportunity for personal coaching (limited numbers) and social paddling for existing members – please book website ‘tickets’ and / or RSVP in the usual way by 9pm Sun 7th. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue\n\n\n\nBrecon Promenade – meet by the Club’s store adjacent to the toilet block in the ‘upper’ car park (https://what3words.com/tigers.loitering.bandage) – NOT in the car park next to the river / boathouse (although some of us might end up operating from there). \n\n\n\nTimes\n\n\n\nMeet at 6.30pm\, ready in your paddling clothes. We want to have everyone kitted-up and getting on the water by 7pm\, so late arrival has quite a disruptive effect! \n\n\n\nWe’ll aim to be getting off the water by 9pm\, before it gets dark. \n\n\n\nParents or other adults must be available at the start and end of the session to help under-18s with kit and to carry boats; and throughout the session in case they need to get off the water early. \n\n\n\nFacilities\n\n\n\nThere are no indoor changing facilities on site\, so it’s a case of changing in the car park. Toilets may be open but only until 7pm – they cost 20p to get in. \n\n\n\nCost\n\n\n\n\nNo cost for ‘social paddlers’ bringing their own boat & kit (although donations welcomed to help us cover costs)\n\n\n\n£10 for personal coaching; £5-10 to hire club boat & kit\n\n\n\nAll existing Club members must also have up-to-date membership of both the Club and Canoe Wales – we’ll send separate reminders for those of you who need these! Any new members will need to join formally after their first three sessions.\n\n\n\n\nEquipment and Clothing\n\n\n\n\nWe’ll provide boats\, paddles\, buoyancy aids\, helmets and spray-decks for those who need them – but if you have your own\, please bring them along\n\n\n\nAlthough deliberate immersion isn’t always part of the plan (and even when it is\, it’s usually towards the end of the session) there’s always a chance of accidental capsize\, so kit should take account of this (and the general weather conditions).\n\n\n\nAt the very least\, wear clothing layers of the type you might wear to go walking – ideally synthetic materials that stay warm and don’t get too heavy when wet. Most people wear swimwear underneath. And a waterproof jacket (to keep off the rain and wind\, rather than keep you dry if you capsize!) – we do have a limited number of canoeing cagoules\, but not enough of the right sizes for everyone.\n\n\n\nFootwear that you don’t mind getting wet\, not too large (chunky trainers don’t fit well in kayaks; neoprene wet-shoes are ideal; sandals or crocs no good as they fall off!).\n\n\n\nIf you want to be assured of staying warmer if you fall in\, a wetsuit is the next step. Ones made specifically for paddling are called Long Johns (or Long Janes) and don’t have sleeves\, for maximum mobility (worn with e.g. rash vest beneath and/or fleece above). But a standard surfing-type ‘full’ wetsuit is also fine as a starter. Again\, we do have a very limited number of wetsuits\, which you’re welcome to check-out on the first evening in case we have one that fits you…\n\n\n\nDon’t forget a towel and complete change of clothes for the end of the session\, in case you do fall in!!

RSVP in the usual way to express interest… \n\n\n\nSorry\, there won’t be an ‘easier’ trip in May\, since many of us will be in Slovenia on the 4th Sunday – but we’ve added an extra one in June!

SUMMARY:Mon 29 Apr 2024 Summer Training - Personal Coaching and Social Paddle
DESCRIPTION:Our fourth Monday evening outdoor foray will again include the option for some ‘personal coaching’ with Dave\, Steve and any other coaches who turn up! The aim will be to match no more than 2-3 paddlers with each coach\, so we can find out what you need and hopefully help you get there. There will be a £10 fee for this coaching session. \n\n\n\nOr if you don’t want any coaching\, feel free to just come along for a ‘social paddle’ (free if you have your own boat\, £5 to use a club kayak). \n\n\n\nPlease RSVP or Get Tickets (or e-mail us with requests) by 9pm Sun 28th\, so we know who to expect. \n\n\n\nLogistic details as Mon 8 Apr 2024 Summer Training – Social Paddle. \n\n\n\nArrangements for subsequent weeks to follow in due course\, although… \n\n\n\n…there will be NO SESSIONS on Bank Holidays Mondays 6 & 27 May as Steve is away.
