SUMMARY:CANCELLED Sun 11 Jul 2021 River Trip
DESCRIPTION:***Trip cancelled due to low numbers – sorry to disappoint those who were hoping to come*** \n\n\n\nSteve is now available on the 11th to run this trip\, after all! \n\n\n\nIt will most likely be a trip from Kerne Bridge to Symonds Yat (between Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth) – a 10-mile trip on the beautiful River Wye\, with the option of playing on Symonds Yat rapids at the end. \n\n\n\nSuitable for anyone aged 11+ with the skills and stamina to paddle 10 miles (on a flowing river!) in kayak\, canoe or paddleboard. \n\n\n\nAll paddlers will need to be able to arrange their own transport to both start and finish points (or we may be able to do a limited car-shuttle for one or two drivers). \n\n\n\nCost will be £8 per person for boat hire (free if you have your own boats)\, plus cost of parking and launching / landing boats at Kerne Bridge and Symonds Yat (allow approx. £10 per person). \n\n\n\nPlaces will be limited\, so if you’re interested in joining us\, please RSVP (using the button on the Event Listing or to mail@breconcanoeclub.org.uk) by Sunday 4 July (so we can make sure we have enough boats and leaders available).

SUMMARY:Wed 21 Jul 2021 Summer Training Evening
DESCRIPTION:During the school holidays we will continue with Wednesday evening sessions\, focusing for most of you on working towards the British Canoeing ‘Discover’ and ‘Explore’ Awards\, which are an excellent benchmark of your developing skills as a paddler (although the Awards themselves are optional\, depending on whether you like to have proof of your achievements!): \n\n\n\nThe Discover Award allows you to develop your decision making and practical skills for a fun and safe time on the water\, taking you on the next steps towards becoming a proficient and independent paddler (and is well suited to those who paddle with us mainly on Wednesday evenings). The Explore Award gives you ownership; allowing you to choose where you move next in the world of paddlesport (and is most suited to those who are able to join us for more than just Wednesday evening sessions).\n\n\n\nThese Awards can be achieved in kayak\, canoe or SUP – and are appropriate for beginners as well as experienced paddlers. Please contact us if you’d like to know more… \n\n\n\nFor those of you who have previously achieved these awards (or their forerunners)\, we will aim to offer a mixture of: \n\n\n\nPolo-related skills and physical training sessions (when Jess is available to run these!); and/orFoundation Safety & Rescue skills.\n\n\n\nBecause it’s the holiday period\, we shan’t be asking you to block-book sessions but will treat each evening separately – although the more sessions you are able to attend\, the more likely you are to achieve an award to recognise your progress! \n\n\n\nPlease book by Sun 18 July using the RSVP button below or by e-mail to Steve.

SUMMARY:Mon 6 Sep 2021 Pool Session (General Training)
DESCRIPTION:Full details below\, training will include: \n\n\n\n‘wet skills’ (capsizes\, rescues\, recovery strokes and rolling); and(possibly) beginners skill training.\n\n\n\nBook now for ‘block’ of 4 sessions (using the RSVP button below or via mail@breconcanoeclub.org.uk) on alternate weeks: \n\n\n\n6 Sep20 Sep4 Oct18 Oct\n\n\n\nOptions for booking individual weeks will follow once we start to get an idea of numbers… \n\n\n\nWe will still be operating with Covid precautions\, so please see below – and follow coaches’ instructions: \n\n\n\nArrival & Changing\n\n\n\nPlease arrive just in time to be changed and ready to enter poolside for 7pm (i.e. don’t arrive too early!). To minimise time in the changing rooms\, please arrive pre-changed where possible (e.g. swimwear under clothes). Please wear T-shirts as well as swimwear (for warmth as well as modesty!).Make your way straight to the changing rooms – there should be no need to check-in at reception unless asked to on arrival. Please wait at the changing room exits before going poolside – we’ll need to be given the ‘all-clear’ that the previous group has left before we enter. Please wear face coverings in the building\, including changing rooms and poolside. You won’t need to wear them once on the water!Feel free to bring your own boats & paddles – as long as they’re clean. Deposit them by the external doors in the car park before the start of the session.\n\n\n\nOn Poolside\n\n\n\nPlease try to keep 2m away from one another (except other family members). We will have a one-way system on poolside: please turn right out of the changing rooms and head to to the external doors to collect a boat\, paddle\, spray-deck and helmet. Continue anti-clockwise around the pool until you reach a point at least 2m from the person in front of you\, where you can kit-up and launch (when given the all-clear to do so). At the end of the evening we’ll reverse this procedure\, going clockwise!Parents are welcome on poolside to help children carry boats and get kitted-up\, also to help them empty boats if required during the session (we’ll show you how!). You might even be able to help in the water\, if this is something you’d be willing to do – in which case\, come prepared with swimwear! No outdoor shoes on poolside please.\n\n\n\nIn the Pool\n\n\n\nPlease try to keep 2m (the length of a paddle) away from other paddlers\, unless agreed by coaches (e.g. to practise rescues\, when you may\, if you’re happy to\, spend short periods in closer contact with individual paddlers).Coaches will aim to keep 2m away from participants as much as possible\, but will need to be closer at times (e.g. for hands-on rolling training; and to recover capsized paddlers). However\, we will each aim to spend less than 15min total within 2m of each individual paddler (and less than 1min total face-to-face within 1m of each individual paddler) – in line with Test & Trace ‘Close Contact’ guidelines.\n\n\n\nBookings & Payment\n\n\n\nAll bookings in advance please\, by online event list RSVP or by e-mail.Payment of £10 per session will be claimed in due course via our usual GoCardless Direct Debit.\n\n\n\nAny questions – please drop us a line!

Please don’t go back-and-forth past other people to collect kit! At the end of the evening we’ll reverse this procedure\, going clockwise!Parents are welcome on poolside to help children carry boats and get kitted-up\, also to help them empty boats if required during the session (we’ll show you how!). You might even be able to help in the water\, if this is something you’d be willing to do – in which case\, come prepared with swimwear – but please work closely only with your own children! No outdoor shoes on poolside please.\n\n\n\nIn the Pool\n\n\n\nPlease try to keep 2m (the length of a paddle) away from other paddlers\, unless agreed by coaches (e.g. to practise rescues and during ‘close-contact’ polo drills and games\, when you may\, if you’re happy to\, spend short periods in closer contact with individual paddlers).Coaches will aim to keep 2m away from participants as much as possible\, but will need to be closer at times (e.g. for hands-on rolling training; and to recover capsized paddlers). However\, we will each aim to spend less than 15min total within 2m of each individual paddler (and less than 1min total face-to-face within 1m of each individual paddler) – in line with Test & Trace ‘Close Contact’ guidelines.
