SUMMARY:9-10 Nov 2019 White Water Training Weekend\, Devon
DESCRIPTION:A great opportunity to develop whitewater skills and confidence. \nOur annual White Water Weekend (jointly with North Avon Canoe Club) is a sociable training weekend suitable for a wide range of abilities ranging from an introduction to white water to the more experienced white water paddler. \nMinimum requirements are 2*-level skills in your craft on flat water and ideally some moving water experience like Symonds Yat. Look out for trips to give you some more experience before this weekend. \nThe weekend is taking place in Devon this year. We are using a bunk house located in Buckfastleigh with the River Dart very close by and a range of other rivers a short drive away. Boat hire (if required) and all food for the weekend is included in the price. \nSpaces are limited so you are advised to book early. We plan to offer training for: \n\nCanoes with the option of OC1 (specialist white-water solo canoes!); and\nKayaks with the option of a White Water Kayak Award assessment (similar to the old 3*)\n\nCourses offered will be subject to the availability of coaches/experienced paddlers to lead the groups.   The rivers paddled during the weekend will depend on the water levels at the time. \nGroups will be led by experienced paddlers or coaches. We will do our best to ensure that the courses listed run – but they are subject to availability of coaches. Whatever happens\, it’s usually a great weekend of paddling. \nThe total cost for weekend is £45.00. This includes 2 nights’ accommodation\, food and all white water coaching. \nAccommodation is William Pengelly Cave Studies Trust\, Russets Lane\, Buckfastleigh\, TQ11 0DY. \nWe are limited to a total of 25 participants in the bunkhouses\, though you are welcome to join us as a day paddler or stay in your own accommodation. The bunkhouse has heating\, toilets and showers all meals will be provided. No-one on poolside before the aquarobics group has left the pool area\, please.\nPlease wear swimming costumes / shorts AND a t-shirt (to preserve everyone’s modesty!).\nParents of under-18s are required to maintain on site throughout the session – the Club cannot take responsibility for children getting changed or if they need to leave the session early for any reason.\nPayment of £70 for the half-term block (or\, by arrangement with us\, £10 for each week you attend) will be arranged by Direct Debit (with a ‘Buy One\, Get One Half Price‘ offer for families!).\nYou may bring your own boats and paddles etc. but these must be ‘scrupulously clean’ – we will provide equipment for everyone who needs.\n\nPlease contact Steve if you have any questions…

DESCRIPTION:Let Steve know ASAP if you’re interested in this\, so we can either put in a Club Team or submit individual entries \nBridgend Canoe Club is hosting a Youth Canoe Polo Competition at Barry Dock on Saturday 7th September 2019. The competition will be open to any paddler who was age 17 or under on 1/1/2019 – depending on entries\, we will look at either running U16’s and U18’s categories\, or just U18s if that looks like it might be best. The focus will very much be on development and participation\, and most importantly\, having fun\, so is open to ALL abilities 🙂 \nWe would love to hear from any other youth paddlers who may want to compete\, as we will happily welcome (and encourage) individual paddlers (and we can then arrange people into teams)\, or whole teams (up to 8 per team). So feel free to pass this message on to anyone you know who may be interested 🙂 \nThe cost is £5 per person. Hopefully this will be a nice way to kick off youth polo for the coming season 🙂 \nPlease download an entry form (Word doc) and send the completed form to:\npr.bridgendcc@gmail.com \nWe aim to start around 10am and finish by 5pm\, but timings will depend on how many entries we get\, so we will finalise this nearer the time. \nWe will offer hot drinks\, cold drinks\, sandwiches\, cakes and a tuck shop. \nWe can provide equipment to those who need it. \nThe venue is Barry Community Water Activity Centre (BCWAC)\, Barry CF62 5AA.

DESCRIPTION:The British Canoeing Paddlesport Instructor qualification is for people aged 14+ whose main focus of work is delivering paddlesport taster/starter sessions within clubs\, centres or other organisations. The qualification is not discipline specific and is suitable for instructors who work with paddlers from any of the competitive and non-competitive paddlesport disciplines. \n\n\n\nThe Paddlesport Instructor is an entry-level qualification\, achieved on a 2-day course\, designed for: \n\n\n\nInstructors in clubs;Instructors for providers/centres who offer paddlesport activity; andInstructors within schools\, DofE\, Youth Groups\, Uniformed Groups\, etc.\n\n\n\nThe qualification will support the instructor with practical skills such as kitting up a group and getting afloat\, initial familiarisation activities\, games and activities to support learning and how to use mini journeys to support learning\, inspire adventure and exploration. This will be enhanced with support on how these sessions can be delivered in a way that is enjoyable\, safe and rewarding. \n\n\n\nThe Paddlesport Instructor qualification is designed for instructors running paddlesport taster/starter sessions within the safety management systems of clubs\, centres or other organisations in: \n\n\n\nVery Sheltered Water environments (including canals); andCraft deemed suitable for a first-time experience (kayak\, open canoe\, sit on top\, or stand up paddleboard)\n\n\n\nThe process of completing the qualification aims to help prepare candidates for their first paddlesport instructing role; ‘primed and ready’. \n\n\n\nCost £120 per person (non-residential). \n\n\n\nCandidates need to: \n\n\n\nbe aged 14 or over;be members of Canoe Wales / British Canoeing (etc.);register for the Award with Canoe Wales / British Canoeing (etc.) – cost £45;have attended a British Canoeing Foundation Safety and Rescue Training (FSRT) course – which I can arrange if necessary; andhave personal paddling (equivalent to the former 2*-level) and rescue competence in one type of craft (kayak\, open canoe\, sit on top\, or stand up paddleboard).

SUMMARY:Fri 2 Aug Foundation Safety & Rescue Training
DESCRIPTION:The FSRT course is intended for all paddlers\, coaches and volunteers irrespective of craft or discipline choice\, and is available in either bank-based or boat-based option (or a combined course covering both). It provides training on key skills needed to operate safely and deal with common emergencies in a sheltered water environment in any craft. Candidates should be competent paddling in both kayak and canoe to enable them to complete the course\, although it is not necessary formally to hold a Personal Performance Award. \n\n\n\nThe FSRT course is a pre-requisite for the British Canoeing Paddlesport Instructor Award.The FSRT course comprises a minimum of 8-hours training and is usually conducted over one long day; this course will take place at Glynneath. No minimum age (although paddlers must be physically able to undertake the course!). \n\n\n\nContact Steve for more details or booking.
