SUMMARY:Sun 29 Feb Emergency / Outdoor / Aquatic First Aid Level 1 (1-day course)
DESCRIPTION:This is an ‘external’ course being run by Steve Rayner\, with discount for Club Members! \nA 1-day course provides a basic level of knowledge and skill to render First Aid in a range of emergency situations within a reasonable distance of medical assistance. This course covers all the requirements for the Emergency First Aid at Work course as well as the British Canoeing Lifeguards Aquatic First Aid Level 1 Award. The 1-day course is an appropriate award for Paddlesport Instructors\, Paddlesport Leaders\, Sheltered Water Coaches (and Level 1 / 2 coaches) and for all paddlers and volunteers operating in and around the sheltered water environment. It is also an appropriate award for the BMC Climbing Wall Awards. The course comprises a minimum of 8-hours training. It takes place in a classroom environment\, with an outdoor scenario whenever possible. \nVenue to be confirmed (somewhere in the Brecon area). \nDiscounted cost £50 for Brecon Canoe Club Members. \nClick on the event website link below for more details and bookings.

No-one on poolside before the aquarobics group has left the pool area\, please.\nPlease wear swimming costumes / shorts AND a t-shirt (to preserve everyone’s modesty!).\nParents of under-18s are required to maintain on site throughout the session – the Club cannot take responsibility for children getting changed or if they need to leave the session early for any reason.\nPayment of £30 for the three alternate weeks this half-term will be arranged by Direct Debit (with a ‘Buy One\, Get One Half Price‘ offer for families!).

The Award is designed for people whose core function is to coach paddlers who want to gain/improve paddlesport skills within the discipline chosen. This will include coaching beginners new to the sport\, or paddlers looking to develop their skills in the given discipline or environment.\n\nThe Coach Award content is delivered through 2-day Core Coach Training and 2-day Discipline Specific Training (22 disciplines currently available\, including Sheltered Water Kayak and/or Canoe; White Water Kayak; White Water Canoe; and Open Water Canoe).\n\nThe two-day Core Coach Training course introduces the shared coaching content that is relevant to all coaches at this level\, exploring different approaches to coaching\, understanding and enabling learning; and some core coaching skills. It is not specific to any one discipline and will make use of a variety of craft to explore different approaches to coaching and introduce some core coaching skills. SUMMARY:Sat 14 Nov 2020 White-Water Warm-Up Trip
DESCRIPTION:The final plan for this trip will depend on weather\, river conditions and participants: \nPlan A: Brynich to Brynich on canal and river – a chance for us to all warm-up and remind ourselves how to paddle\, starting on the canal from Brynich to Brecon then back to Brynich on the Usk\, with some easy white-water suitable for competent paddlers with some moving water experience. \nPlan B: Grade 2-3 White Water on the Usk or Wye – only if everyone who wants to come is happy to go straight to some moderate white water! \nPlan C: Usk Reservoir tour – only if the rivers are too high to paddle and it’s not too windy! \nTiming is most likely 9.30am-3pm\, although we won’t finalise this until we know who’s coming and where we’re going! \nPaddlers will need their own transport to and from the start and finish points – and clothing suitable for the conditions as well as packed lunch / snacks / drinks and hand sanitiser! Club boats and equipment will be available to hire (£8 per person) but must be booked in advance – if you have your own\, please bring them! \nNumbers are limited\, so RSVP as soon as possible and no later than Sun 8 Nov (using the button at the bottom of the website event listing or by e-mail reply)  if you’d like to come along (even if you’re not absolutely certain at this stage). We’ll then be in contact about detailed arrangements.
