SUMMARY:Mon 28 Sep 2026 Pool Session (General Training)
DESCRIPTION:Our next block of general training sessions in the pool at Brecon Leisure Centre will start on Mon 28 Sep and will run for 3 weeks – please ‘get tickets’ using the button on the website linking (or e-mail Steve for advice!): \n\n\n\n\n28 Sep\, 5\, 12 Oct\n\n\n\n\nSessions will run from 7.30 to 9.15pm\, including a 15min ‘buffer’ at the start and finish to get equipment in and out of the pool (i.e. an hour-and-a-quarter actually in the pool). \n\n\n\nWe expect to offer the following options\, subject to numbers: \n\n\n\n\nLearn to Kayak – a 3-week course covering basic techniques\n\n\n\nPersonalised coaching (esp. for those who need to develop their skills with rolling and support strokes or to develop their confidence with capsizing) – currently expecting Anne\, Fionnuala\n\n\n\nIndependent practice – for those who just want time in their boat without (much) coaching\n\n\n\n\nWe’ve kept the price of these sessions the same as last year for now (£15 per session – or £40 pre-booked for all 3 – with no refunds for missed sessions); however we will keep this under review and hope to be able to reduce the price of future sessions if we have enough participants to cover the pool hire cost (which is £120 per week). All ‘existing’ paddlers will need to be paid-up members of the Club and of Paddle Cymru (and signed-up to our Club Code of Conduct). Priority spaces will be given to block-bookings.  \n\n\n\nNB we are also offering a family ‘3-for-2’ deal this year: a third participant from the same family may attend sessions free-of-charge provided we have space for them – again\, we’ll keep this under review once we know numbers attending. These discounted rates may still make it difficult for us to cover our costs\, so we will also continue to invite optional donations\, for those that feel able to contribute a little extra… \n\n\n\nArrival & Changing\n\n\n\n\nPlease arrive in time to be changed and ready to enter poolside for 7.30pm.\n\n\n\nPlease wear T-shirts as well as swimwear (for warmth as well as modesty!).\n\n\n\nMake your way straight to the changing rooms – there is no need to check-in at reception.\n\n\n\nPlease wait at the changing room exits before going poolside – we’ll need to be given the ‘all-clear’ that the previous group has left before we enter.\n\n\n\nFeel free to bring your own boats & paddles – as long as they’re clean. Deposit them by the external doors in the car park before the start of the session.\n\n\n\n\nOn Poolside\n\n\n\n\nParents are welcome on poolside to help children carry boats and get kitted-up\, also to help them empty boats if required during the session (we’ll show you how!). You might even be able to help in the water\, if this is something you’d be willing to do – in which case\, come prepared with swimwear!\n\n\n\nNo outdoor shoes on poolside please.
