Club trips

Thanks to those who joined us on Saturday for our first post-lockdown trip: it was great to have at last re-started activity after this year’s difficulties – sorry it took so long! We had a great turn-out, with Graham and Morgan joining us on the canal from Brynich to Brecon on their first ever club trip; and Dave, Edith, Eleanor, Jess, Mike, Olly and Steve continuing on the Usk back to Brynich, finding lots of small white water features to play on the way and reminding their paddling muscles what to do after such a long break! This was also a great opportunity to test our Covid operating procedures, on a round-trip with no need for car shuttles: social-distancing and kit hygiene didn’t prove too difficult so we’re ready now for the next few trips…

On all these, numbers are limited so RSVP as soon as possible and no later than the Sunday before the trip (click on the trip title to see details of each event and their RSVP buttons; or reply by e-mail):

Sat 28 Nov White Water Trip

The final plan for this trip will depend on weather, river conditions and participants, but ‘Plan A’ is for a Grade 2 trip from Aberbran to Brecon on the Usk, for a few paddlers who should all have good flat-water skills and some moving water experience (e.g. have at least paddled the likes of Glasbury-Hay or Symonds Yat) AND who can make their own transport arrangements (to avoid the need for a car-sharing shuttle).

Sat 12-Sun 13 Dec White Water Kayak Award Course

An opportunity for club members to get some formal training and be assessed for the British Canoeing White Water Award (similar to the previous 3* White Water Kayak Award) – participants should have some white water experience and been working towards (ideally succeeding in!) rolling in the pool.

This is a 2-day ‘professional’ course run by Steve, rather than a club event as such. Normally £150, this will be available for the bargain price of £50 for Brecon Canoe Club Members – but Steve will need at least 2 Members to sign-up by 29 November to make this work…

Sat 26 Dec Boxing Day Paddle

A short trip to burn-off some Christmas calories, the final plan will depend on weather, water conditions and participants, but ‘Plan A’ is for a short trip around Usk Reservoir, suitable for all flat-water paddlers (the fall-back in poor conditions will be a trip on the canal!).

Trips in the New Year

We’re planning to continue in the New Year with our programme of trips or events on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month – although we might change some of these to Sundays to suit those of you who can’t make Saturdays – please e-mail Steve if you’d prefer some Sunday options…
